The main Square
is a place where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful gardens.
This main square is a historic site. It hosts incomparable gardens in
this city for this reason the main square of Cochabamba has a peaceful and
inspiring environment.
Main
Square 14 of September is considered the center of the city. It is surrounded
by neoclassical architecture with four galleries and they are located the main
public institutions of CochabambaMetropolitan Cathedral "San Sebastian"
The facade of the Cathedral reflects a mestizo fusion of spanish baroque style and indigenous architectural styles.
Around 1605, Sebastian Montes had participated in the construction of San Agustin's simple church and began the construction of the main chapel. However, this work was unconcluded and with the risk of falling.
That is why in 1619 the Town council, of the Villa of Oropeza (ancient name of the city) summoned architect Juan of Canedo to rim the walls of the main chapel and vessel. This work was concluded by Domingo del Bazo toward 1630. In 1701 the construction of the main church began, which is today the Metropolitan Cathedral.
Colon Square and El Prado
The Alameda Colonial of Ingavi was transformed into today's Plaza Colon and the Prado Avenue which is often host to parades and urban recreation.
Today, it's a site for young couples to flirt, older folks to stroll, and home to several excellent restaurants and shopping areas. Once called Alameda, the Prado once was home to many aspen trees (alamedas), the avenue today sports various restaurants and serves as a place El Prado is a prominent commercial centers strip along the tree-lined boulevard, Ballivian Avenue. Attractions include an active night life, upscale restaurants and cafes.
La Recoleta
On the Northern side of the Rio Rocha is La Recoletta and Avenida Pando. This is a modern and chic area, center of nightlife, where you'll find Cochabamba's 10-pin bowling alley, 10-screen movie theatre, a Mercedes-Benz dealership and many restaurants, cafes and nightclubs
Portales Palace
It is located in the northern neighbourhood of Queru Queru. The Portales Palace was built between 1915 and 1927 based on the design by French architect Eugene Bliault. It was a residence of Simon Iturri Patiño, Bolivian millionaire, called "the tin baron" who controlled over half of the nation's output in the 1930s.
This place is a beautiful example of the eclectic style with French Renaissance architectural influences. It includes a Louis XVI room, a moor themed room and influences of Alhambra de Granada. Set in 10 hectares of gardens inspired by Versailles, the mansion was finished in 1927 but never occupied. The Patiño Mansion is now the Cultural and Pedagogic Center Simon I. Patiño.
